Hello and Welcome to my website! My name is Dan Marlow and I’m a freelance web designer and developer based in Burnley, Lancashire. I graduated from the University of Central Lancashire, Preston (UCLAN) in July 2010 where I attained a degree in Web Design and Multimedia. I currently work in Nelson and am offering my freelance services throughout Colne and Lancashire.
I love building websites and getting new challenges, it’s often stressful and time consuming but I enjoy what I do and I love seeing the outcome after many weeks of hard work. I’m friendly and approachable and wont pressure you with any sales talk or confuse you with any technical jargon, so if you would like to get in touch for an informal chat about your next design project please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Why Choose Me?
I am not like the big corporate design agencies and I don’t want to be. What I want to offer my clients besides a bespoke website is a personal service and the ability to keep you up-to date on the progress every step of the way, so you can really get involved in the process.
There are many advantages to choosing a freelancer over a large company but to summarise freelance web designers take more pride in their work, its all consistent because its done by the same person and I can offer you a much higher quality service at a highly competitive price.
Here are a few more reasons:
- Competitively Priced – I have very little overheads
- Design Passion – I choose to do this freelance
- High Web Standards – I’m a recent university graduate
- Contact – No switchboards or different people for different jobs
- All under one roof – Everything is done by me so it’s consistent and of high standard
- Locality – Living in Burnley I can easily arrange meetings to work around you
Why am i doing this?
Im passionate about creating ascetically pleasing websites that are both functional and are of cutting edge technology, I have always had an interest in all things computer related so I set about learning all there is about them so I could get a career in web design in my hometown Burnley.
Now I have achieved my degree and graduated from university the learning hasn’t stopped. As part of my degree I was taught how to expand on my skill sets and keep up-to-date with the world of technology. To be a good web designer you need to keep on top of it, which is why I often spend much of my spare time reading up on developments in web coding and am forever expanding my knowledge.
Believe it or not I actually enjoy designing and building websites so I want to do more of it freelance at home in Burnley. This allows me to put my skills to the test and to push myself further to becoming the best at what I do. I enjoy getting new challenges and being given the chance to code new features and create nice clean designs.
For the above reasons I’ve decided to setup my own web design service so I can offer my skills as a service throughout Burnley, Nelson, Colne and Lancashire.
My University Degree
My degree covered everything there is to do with creating and designing websites such as creating graphics, animations, competition analysis, creating to strict briefs, designing for the visually impaired, right through to finally building your website to the latest web standards.
While studying for my degree in website design and development at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston I learnt a wide variety of skill sets to enable me to deliver high quality websites in my hometown Burnley. Coupled with the variety of web languages I was also taught how to critically analyse my own work as well as others, along with how to effectively communicate ideas and briefs with clients.
Here are some of the modules I took: Programming with Javascript / jQuery, 3D Design and Modelling, Interactive Media Production, Computer Graphics and Design, Video Production, Human Computer Interaction, Programming with Actionscript, Multimedia Systems and Communication, Interactive Design, Dynamic Applications, Interactive Authoring.
